Ilios Sells First Heat Pump into the UK Market in the Building Services Sector
WALTHAM, Mass., April 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Ilios Dynamics Inc., a subsidiary of Tecogen® Inc. (NASDAQ: TGEN) today announced the first sale of an HEWH-500-WS natural gas engine-driven heat pump into the UK market building services sector. The product will be installed in England by the end of June and represents a first step in that part of the world for the provision of a sustainable packaged solution for buildings looking to reduce their energy bills as well as their carbon impact. The natural gas engine-driven heat pump is configured to use water as its free energy source, that is a "water-source" heat pump. This source water can be in the form of groundwater, low-grade waste heat from an industrial process, or by implementing it in such a manner as to provide simultaneous heating and cooling. The benefit of using a natural gas engine to drive the heat pump cycle with engine waste heat recovery means that it not only has a higher efficiency than an electric heat pump and a lower carbon impact, but it also has a very low operating cost. "We are excited to sell our first Ilios heat pump into the UK marketplace," said Stephen Lafaille, Ilios Product Manager. "We have been quietly proving our technology in nearby Ireland for the past couple of years. We have several successful installations in various market verticals there and this sale represents our first into the UK market, which has very significant potential for our technology." Liam Flynn, Technical Director at GF Sustainable said, "I have worked on heat recovery solutions for cooling and heating across Europe over the past 20 years and we chose the Ilios solution because it has the lowest operating cost, smallest carbon foot print, and cleanest emissions of any fossil fuel-based water heating and cooling device on the market today. The abundance of clean, low cost natural gas, coupled with the heat pump cycle makes this product very attractive. Ilios is continuing to innovate on a proven technology that its parent company, Tecogen, has been doing for decades - building robust and efficient packaged combined heat and power (CHP) systems. We look forward to expanding Ilios' footprint further into the UK and replicating the success we have had in Ireland."
